19:16, January 20, 2016 | News, Own news | Detention FacilitiesAs already reported, Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor took on protection of the rights of the family of Anzor Karapetyan, deceased at ‘Armavir’ penitentiary facilities on January 4, 2016. Note that A. Karapetyan’s family consulted the Organization after the incident and said they had no information about any measures taken to reveal the circumstances of his death.
While the administration of the penitentiary facilities qualified the incident as a suicide, the family of the deceased do not consider the hypothesis of suicide plausible referring to a number of circumstances, including the injuries and traces of violence on his body revealed by the autopsy.
The family of the deceased convict informed HCA Vanadzor that 2 plain-clothes persons, who did not introduce themselves, visited them to express their condolences in terms of the incident and sought to find out the steps they planned to take.
Learning that A. Karapetyan’s family were consistent in their intention to reveal the circumstances of the incident, the plain-clothes persons asked them in a threatening tone, “Will you hold your ground?”
A. Karapetyan’s grandfather, who talked to these persons, first considered them journalists interested in the details of the incident and only after the last questions asked in a threatening tone, he realized the real aim behind their visit.
