United Nations Human Rights Council adopted Resolution on Human Rights Defenders without any amendments
23:03, March 25, 2016 | News, Own newsAs reported before, the Norwegian Government submitted to the United Nations Human Rights Council a draft resolution on human rights defenders addressing economic, social and cultural rights, and China, Cuba, Egypt, Pakistan and Russia proposed to make amendments to the draft. The 30 amendments proposed by the states above might pose serious dangers to human rights activism.
Over 150 organizations from around the world, including Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor, urged the United Nations Human Rights Council with an open letter to reject the proposed negative changes and adopt the draft in its initial version.
At its session of March 24, 2016, the United Nations Human Rights Council adopted the Resolution without the amendments above proposed by China, Cuba, Egypt, Pakistan and Russia.
