The Project aimed to find out whether the community sports institutions equally took into account the interests and needs of different groups of community beneficiaries, particularly those of girls and boys and how much importance was generally given to the gender equality principles in the community policies.
The meeting covered the issues below:
- grounds of the policy on introducing the gender component at the local level;
- Vanadzor municipality sports policies: assessment of the gender component at budget and project levels;
- outcomes of the sports school beneficiaries’ needs assessment;
- outcomes of the examination of the budgets of sports institutions under Vanadzor municipality;
- proposals to representatives of sports schools, officers of the competent division of the municipality and members of the Standing Committee on Gender Issues of the Regional Governor’s Office (marzpetaran).
The discussion was attended by the representatives of Vanadzor sports schools and Gevorg Matsakyan, Head of the Physical Training and Sports Division of the community municipality.
The meeting participants linked the raised problems, particularly the unequal opportunities for both sexes in community sports, to the scarce financial resources and the public mentality and considered the solution to those problems not depending on them. However, the discussion participants expressed their willingness to solve the problems identified by the monitoring that did not require any significant financial costs. Some participants also suggested holding another meeting after studying the report to discuss with the administration of the sport schools and the Physical Training and Sports Division of the community municipality the possibilities for implementing the proposals and the next steps.
