Election campaigning by Surik Khachatryan in the building used by the territorial election commission may impact the commission’s work: HCAV applied to CEC
11:45, April 1, 2017 | News, Own news | Electoral RightsThe media reported information that in support of Ashot Arsenyan, candidate to the Parliament nominated in the RPA (Republican Party of Armenia) territorial list, Surik Khachatryan, former Governor of Syunik marz (region), carried out election campaign in Goris and met the voters.
While monitoring the RA NA (National Assembly) election campaign, HCA Vanadzor long-term observers reported that within the said campaign Surik Khachatryan held his meetings also on the 1st floor of the building used by the Territorial Election Commission № 12.
This suggests that the said area is actually used as campaign headquarters and may be used as such on the voting day as well and thus impact the Commission’s work.
Based on Article 19 of the RA Electoral Code, stating that campaign headquarters cannot be located as well in the buildings used by election commissions and concerns that such location may jeopardize the normal course of activities of Territorial Election Commission № 12, HCA Vanadzor today suggested that the RA Central Election Commission checked the mentioned information and took actions to stop the violations.
