No criminal proceedings were initiated on use of violence by police officers against Armine Arakelyan
13:30, July 22, 2016 | News, Own newsHCA Vanadzor took on the protection of the rights of Armine Arakelyan, founder of “Institute for Human Rights and Democracy” NGO, who was forcibly transferred on May 17, 2016 by police officers to a psychiatric hospital from the fountain basin in Republic Square, Yerevan.
Based on a publication on 1in.am news website entitled Political scientist Armine Arakelyan, founder of “Institute for Human Rights and Democracy” NGO, suffered violent beating at psychiatric hospital, where she provided information on the violence exerted on her by law enforcement officers and the staff of the psychiatric hospital, on June 22, 2016, the RA Investigative Committee initiated criminal proceedings on inflicting torture on Armine Arakelyan by the staff of the RA MoH ‘Nubarashen’ psychiatric medical center under Article 118 of the RA Criminal Code (Battery or committal of other violent acts).
During the questioning on July 13, 2016 under the initiated criminal proceedings, victim Armine Arakelyan reiterated the information she had provided previously that the police officers had exerted violence on her. Based on the foregoing, lawyer Arayik Zalyan, Coordinator of Legal Department of HCA Vanadzor, representative of Armine Arakelyan, applied to the investigative agency on initiating another criminal case on the use of violence by police officers and forwarding it by subordination principle to the RA Special Investigation Service.
