Prominent human rights Activist, Artur Sakunts, called for participation tonight, June 30, 2012, at 9:00 p.m in a candle-light memorial for Vahe Avetyan.
“I call upon all my friends, supporters, antagonists, relatives, strangers, and intimates, to be at Hantsakar (“Crimestone”)/Harsnakar Restaurant, tonight at 9:00 p.m. for a “candle-lighting ceremony in memory of VAHE AVETYAN who was murdered there…” wrote the activist.
Those who committed and supported this crime should be held responsible before both the court and the public for spitting on us, killing us, and for destroying the human being in us… we exist, we live, we have dignity, we condemn… terror and violence will not prevail, will not pass, will not rule…”
Dr. Vahe Avetyan’s death caused a public outcry and social networks are full of outrage to punish the perpetrators of the ‘Harsnakar” incident. I urge to replace indifference by coming out and participating in the ceremony.
On June 17, 2012, Vahe Avetyan was severely beaten in the parking lot of Harsnakar Restaurant Complex by the security staff of the restaurant, which belongs to MP Ruben Hayrapetyan (ruling RPA).
After a valiant life and death struggle for 12 days, Major Vahe Avetyan, head of the ENT Department of the Yerevan Garrison Hospital died during the evening of the 29th of June.
The severe beating caused a massive hematoma in Vahe Avetyan’s head causing severe trauma to the cerebral hemispheres. After the beating, on June 17, 2012, at around 3:00 a.m., he was taken to hospital and underwent brain surgery. A second surgery did not help.
7 people were arrested regarding the murder case, including 5 restaurant security guards, 1 manager, and 1 waiter.
