By RA SIS decree of November 25, 2016, Hovhannes Ghazaryan, currently on hunger strike, was allowed to see his close family
18:22, December 2, 2016 | News, Own news | Sasna TsrerAs already reported, Hovhannes Ghazaryan, currently in custody, supporter of the ‘Founding Parliament’, who took part in the assemblies following the seizure of the RA Police Patrol and Guard Service regiment by ‘Sasna Tsrer’ group on July 17, 2016, went on a hunger strike demanding acquittal and release.
From the moment of his detention, the investigating body, without any grounds banned any visits and phone conversations, which might have severe psychological consequences for a person in custody.
Today, Hovhannes Ghazaryan’s attorney Ani Chatinyan, lawyer at HCA Vanadzor, received the decree of the RA Special Investigation Service on the motion of November 10, 2016 on removing the restriction on Hovhannes Ghazaryan’s visits and phone calls for his close family. The decree sanctioned visits of close family, and the restriction on phone calls remained in force.
The restriction on visits imposed on the persons detained under the events of July 17, 2016, including Hovhannes Ghazaryan, is a manifestation of differentiated approach against them by the authorities.
We consider the ban on visits and months-long detention to be applied as a punishment on the persons who “dared” to exercise their rights to freedom of speech and assembly on those days.
