Artur Sakunts: “It’s clear that our voter voted for the Republican Party; I saw it during the calculation of votes”
20:22, April 3, 2017 | News, Other news | Electoral Rights“The joy of the parties that will get into the National Assembly should be qualified as feast during plague”, Artur Sakunts, Chairman of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor, said today at his meeting with journalists.
According to him, whatever we witnessed yesterday cannot be considered joy:
“Our state is seriously ill, we are seriously ill and need to think hard on recovering or stopping the course of the disease. Why have we come down to this? How is each of us responsible for the situation we witnessed yesterday? A situation when giving vote bribes openly is called donation or salary, a situation when our citizen came down or was made to come down to the level of subordination that he/she voted for the Republican Party of Armenia. I have few questions to voice about the voting results, I consider them objective to some extent; there were violations but not too significant, the problem is that this group might get so much support.”
A. Sakunts said that he was not concerned with the evaluation of the situation by the international organizations.
“We should be able to see our real evaluation of the situation; we have much to do to overcome this disease, this difficult situation. If anyone tries to say anything positive about getting their parliamentary mandate, it would sound as contempt and fabrication against all of us, we have serious work to do to save RA from this virus called plague. This is a whole chain of deliberate crimes that aims to discourage RA citizens and make them leave the country; this is the biggest crime and a challenge for all of us.
The voters also understood this all but did not want to take any responsibility. One thing is clear: our voter voted for the Republican Party; I saw it during the calculation of votes. They voted and it doesn’t matter whether they did so out of fear, for vote bribes or for any other reason.”
