HCA Vanadzor’s message on the 25th anniversary of Armenia’s independence
18:47, September 21, 2016 | Announcements, OwnOn September 21, 1991, the centuries-long dream of the Armenian people came true and today we already have a 25-year-old statehood.
By re-establishing its statehood, the Armenian people gained the right to talk to the civilized world on equal terms and determine independently its own way to improve its statehood.
Regrettably, the Republic of Armenia, represented by the RA authorities, could not apply that right with dignity and present itself to the international community as a state with an independent and sustainable statehood.
Despite certain actions and efforts invested in some sectors, the Republic of Armenia does not create for its citizens the conditions peculiar to a legal and democratic state by oppressing and persecuting dissidents and committing major omissions in the protection of human rights. This is also manifested by the incomplete performance of the actions of the National Strategy for Human Rights Protection on which HCA Vanadzor published a study some days ago.
In the 21st century, it is inappropriate for a legal state to have political prisoners, restrain the voice of citizens and the mass media going as far as use physical violence, infringe on the opinion of its own people and in a night point unilaterally the way of the whole state.
The civil society and political forces of the Republic of Armenia should show political will to return the state’s development to the democratic and legal level, so that we can present ourselves to the world as a truly independent and free nation with a 25-years’ statehood.
