Second court hearing on case of infant Karine Hovhannisyan’s death held
19:30, January 23, 2016 | News, Own news | Right to Life | Karine HovhannisyanOn January 22, 2016, the General Jurisdiction Court of Armavir Marz (Region) in its Echmiatzin residence held the 2nd court hearing on infant Karine Hovhannisyan’s case who died at Armavir Medical Center on June 16, 2015.
Note that under the criminal proceedings initiated, A. Petrosyan, Head of the Infections Diseases Unit of Armavir Medical Center, was charged under Article 130(2) of the RA Criminal Code (non-fulfillment or improper fulfillment of professional duties by medical and support personnel, which caused through negligence the patient’s death).

At the court hearing, witnesses Hakob Hovhannisyan, Sofya Aghabekyan and Karine Hovhannisyan, father, mother and grandmother of the dead child, respectively, provided testimonies. They described the details of the incident starting from the moment of taking the child to hospital till deterioration of her health and her subsequent death.
In response to the judge’s question, they said that they complained and demanded that the offender was held liable in compliance with law.
The parties to the trial asked some questions to clarify the circumstances mentioned by the witnesses.
Hence, the court hearing was adjourned till February 9, 2016, 3 pm.
Note that the other witnesses involved in the case will be questioned at the next court hearing. Also, we learnt from Datalex system that A. Petrosyan, Head of the Infections Diseases Unit of Armavir Medical Center, was involved as a defendant in one more criminal case. He was charged under Article 130(2) of the RA Criminal Code; when providing medical assistance to infant E. Amirkhanyan, resident of Norapat village, Armavir Marz (Region), he failed to properly fulfill his professional duties due to careless and negligent attitude, which caused the patient’s death.
