“Unless the parties and alliances apply to the Central Election Commission demanding to cancel RPA’s registration, they are projected by the authorities”
19:00, March 27, 2017 | News, Other news“We’ll consider any political force, that doesn’t apply to the Central Election Commission (CEC) on abuse of administrative resources by school headmasters and doesn’t demand to cancel RPA’s registration, as political force or parties in agreement with the authorities”, human rights activist Artur Sakunts said in his interview to 1in.am news website, referring to continuation of yesterday’s protest action.
Note that yesterday’s protest action and march entitled ‘March for free and fair elections’ was held to the Central Election Commission demanding to cancel RPA’s registration. Note, however, that in this case the social sector cannot lead to the legal consequences of the issue, and it is only the political forces and alliances taking part in the elections that can apply to the CEC and demand to cancel the registration.
“We passed our message yesterday, and now it’s time for the truth. Regardless of political and ideological disagreements and partisan interests, there is a fundamental challenge: guarantee for free and fair elections. This is a challenge that must bring together all the political forces. And if those forces don’t come together, they won’t have any moral right to speak on behalf of the people,” Sakunts added.
According to the human rights activist, the public must know very well who their political figures are. Unless a political party that takes part in the elections makes no step to ensure free and fair elections, it means that it’s against such elections. “It means that such party is going not to take part in the elections but rather realize its arrangements with the authorities. They prioritize neither elections, nor voters, but rather the arrangement with the political force that committed violations. And it is against the security, stability and progress of RA,” the human rights activist said.
Artur Sakunts said that he was not informed yet whether any political force was going to make such demand to the CEC. “I openly urged them to unite and take this step. The rest depends on the political forces and their will power. We already have some reactions; the political parties express their views and approaches. I think an agenda will be set.”
Artur Sakunts has noted that even if the political forces do not apply to the CEC, or if they apply but the CEC does not assess the situation adequately, they would anyway voice the issue and inform of it the international organizations, OSCE/ODIHR, Venice Commission and all the organizations where Republic of Armenia committed to hold free and fair elections.
