Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor condemns the widespread violence and illegal actions by the RA Police

Starting from July 17, 2016, the illegal actions taken by the RA Police against citizens, namely detentions without any legal grounds and denying access to proper legal aid, as a rule accompanied by physical and psychological pressure, became even more intensive on July 27, 2016 starting from 4 am.
Presently, the whole arsenal of the police is in place resulting in an atmosphere of fear and intimidation.
We strongly condemn the illegal practices of the RA Police and demand that the RA President and the RA Prosecutor General take immediate measures to stop the violence, illegal actions and formation of an atmosphere of intimidation in the Republic by the police, in strict compliance of the legal procedures and human rights laid down in the RA Constitution and other laws.
