Another Step towards Reconciliation
22:36, August 6, 2015 | News, Own newsOn June 6-14, 2015, Kobuleti, Georgia hosted Reconciliation: Building Peace Together through Remembrance training attended by a group of young people from Europe, particularly Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and 3 South Caucasian countries, namely Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan. The training mostly aimed to create a common platform for cooperation of the young people from participating countries involved in peace building. The training gave them an opportunity to share the significant events in the history of their countries and their perceptions thereof. Participants from European countries also shared reconciliation practices of their countries, which aroused the enthusiasm and positive attitude among representatives of countries still in the “no war, no peace” situation and seeking ways to reconciliation. The theoretical part of the training covered definition of the concept and types of conflict through group activities, as well as becoming familiar through relevant videos and diagrams with the aspects of conflict and its conversion stages and introducing the conflict analysis tools. The project also covered a visit to the Atinati organization in the city of Zugdidi where the participants learned about its peace-building activities. They also had the opportunity to meet the representatives of the EU Monitoring Mission in Zugdidi, who presented the development stages of the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict and the results of their observations. The topic was further detailed by Georgi Kakulia, President of the Tbilisi-based Academy for Peace and Development NGO. One of he most significant episodes of the training covered the interaction between the Armenian and Azerbaijani participants based on mutual respect and understanding of the views and positions of the both countries and willingness to cooperate further on.
