Armenia is not addressed in Vilnius
07:15, November 29, 2013 | News, Other news“EU is ready to resume the process of signing the Association Agreement with Ukraine”, stated Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle today at the forum for civil society representatives and experts in Vilnius.
Հit is noteworthy that the forum was convened within the framework of the Eastern Partnership summit. The president of Lithuania came up with a welcoming speech at the forum. 21st President of the European Parliament Mr. Cox stated in his speech that: “Europe is open for cooperation, Europe has not changed and we hope neither you have.”
By the way, the civil forum was quite representational: it was attended by ex-presidents and high rank diplomats. Certain people out of the initially released speech makers’ list refrained from their speeches as a sign of disappointment that their expectations had failed. It should be noted that Ukraine had put off the signing of the Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) with the EU for a term of 6 months, whereas, Armenia had completely refused to do so.
Tomorrow the aforementioned agreements will be signed by Moldova and Georgia. It was noteworthy that Armenia was not addressed by the speech makers of the forum. All of the examples and expressions of regret were made in the address of Ukraine.
Chairman of Helsinki Citizens’ assembly Vanadzor Artur Sakunts also participate in the forum, who made the below-mentioned comment on his Facebook page. “We record that only the issues related to Ukraine were under attention at the opening morning session of the civil society forum, pressures against an independent country cannot be deemed as a European conduct, the Eastern Partnership is a development opportunity and the civil society remains the important safeguard for the implementation of those opportunities.” Today Eastern Partnership business forum will also be held in Vilnius.
