Artur Sakunts: “Sefilyan is one of the few people who did not lose their morality after going through the crucible of war”
12:48, March 23, 2018 | News, Other news“Zhirayr Sefilyan is one of the few people who did not lose their morality after going through the crucible of the war in Karabakh. That is to say, he did not join corruption schemes, did not make use of his war records [to gain] personal wealth and to solve life problems. The authorities failed to turn him into their sympathizer. One whose behavior cannot be controlled is a threat to authoritarian powers,” said human rights defender Artur Sakunts on “Azatutyun” (Liberty).
It should be recalled that, according to the court verdict brough in on March 20, Zhirayr Sefilyan was sentenced to 10 years and 5 months of imprisonment.
According to Sakunts, Sefilyan’s case was yet another step aimed at destroying the rule of law. “This is called political retaliation. I am sure that the term of Sefilyan’s imprisonment sentence was predetermined when he was arrested. Serzh Sargsyan gave the instruction, and law enforcers made up the wording, which had no connection with reality,” added he.
