Court Hearing on Avetisyans Family Murder Case Lacked Necessary Conditions for Effective Examination
12:20, December 18, 2015 | Press ReleaseOn December 18, 2015, the General Jurisdiction Court of Shirak Marz (Region) held its 1st outgoing court hearing on the case of Avetisyans family 7 members murder by V. Permyakov, serviceman at Russian military base № 102. The 1st outgoing court hearing was held in a small hall on the territory of the Russian military base № 102, which lacked proper working conditions for the parties to the trial, journalists and other persons wishing to attend the trial.
Defendant Valery Permyakov was isolated in a glassed cage in handcuffs and deprived of any opportunity to communicate with his attorneys, and his answers to the questions of the Court were not audible to the parties to the trial and the other persons in the courtroom.
The road to the military base and courtroom where the outgoing hearing was to be held was under stringent police control, and the attorneys, victims’ successors and their legal representatives were not allowed to reach by cars to the area immediately adjacent to the military base. This became an obstacle for some of the victims’ legal representatives to be in time for the court hearing.
After announcing a 15-minute break, the Court, without any legal substantiation, dismissed a motion by a victims’ successor’s legal representative to remove from the courtroom the 2 Russian military base servicemen armed with rubber truncheons.
Another public defender was involved to defend V. Permyakov and he was given 1 month to get familiar with the case materials.
At the same time, the Court did not permit a legal representative of the victims’ successor to file a motion on holding the court hearing at the courtroom of Shirak Marz (Region) General Jurisdiction Court.
