French-Armenian public figure Alexandre Varbedian’s data have been removed from the “data bank of the aliens considered undesirable in the territory of the RA”
19:24, June 4, 2018 | News, Own newsToday, on June 4, 2018, HCA Vanadzor advocate Ani Chatinyan, the representative of French-Armenian public figure Alexandre Varbedian, was informed in a phone call from the RA National Security Service that Al. Varbedian’s data were removed from the “data bank of the aliens considered undesirable in the territory of the RA.”
Al. Varbedian’s entry to the RA was banned since 2002.
The RA National Security Service interpreted the ban on entry through the RA Law on Foreigners, stating that there were “reliable data” indicating that Al. Varbedian’s activity could harm the RA security. His data were entered into the “data bank of the aliens considered undesirable in the territory of the RA”.
Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor Office undertook the defense of Al. Varbedian’s rights and applied to the NSS with the demand to lift the ban. The last court session was on June 1. The representative of the NSS did not show up at this court session and requested to adjourn it.
It should be recalled that in May 2015 the data of another French-Armenin public figure, Jean Baptiste Ozkirisyan (Shant Voskerchyan) were entered into the data bank of the aliens considered undesirable in the territory of the RA, and his entry to the RA was banned.
HCA Vanadzor undertook the defense of his rights, following the appeal brought before the court, on April 25, 2016, the data on Shant Voskerchyan were removed from the data bank of the aliens considered undesirable in the territory of the RA.
