Human Rights Activist: “By not condemning Hayrapetyan’s Act of Violence the RPA shows its oligarchic Essence”
11:47, July 10, 2012 | News“If everything was soothed with apologies, at least 50% of the convicts in correctional facilities would not have been convicted,” Artur Sakunts, Chairman of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor, said during a conversation with www.aravot.am, referring to the case of Arman Veziryan who was subjected to violence by Ruben Hayrapetyan.
Mr. Sakunts did not believe that Arman Veziryan would put up with the act of violence and would not report it to the police, “But this is not about Veziryan; it is not a separate action or an isolated case, the issue is that on the day of commemorating a person who had died from violence, another act of violence takes place. This culture of violence is of a systemic character as the only manner of interacting with citizens; this is a vivid evidence of an oligarchic system. These minor tricks of apologizing and so on are not what can make us naively believe that they would change everything.”
Mr. Sakunts said they demand that the Republican Party of Armenia discuss and condemn the act of violence, “Mr. Hayrapetyan’s party, which does not condemn such actions, is oligarchic in its essence, and an oligarchic system does not recognize interests of citizens, outside of its own interests, this is being proven and we don’t have any intention to put up with it.”
