Kiev could not resist temptation, Putin applied a CSS technology: opinions about Ukraine-EU Association process
06:38, November 25, 2013 | News, Other newsBeing under the pressures of the Russian side, the Ukraine could not resist this temptation. Chairman of “Free Democrats” faction Khachatur Qoqobelyan expressed such an opinion in a talk with Tert.am by addressing the relevant decision of the Ukrainian government to prevent the preparatory activities of association with the EU.
“I do not exclude Ukraine’s intention not to join the Customs Union, this process will still long continue. The Ukraine did not stop but suspended the process. And that means it does not stop here” he noted.
Khachatur Qoqobelyan stated that the pressures of the Russian side are conditioned by two factors: the natural gas and the committee, where political and not economic decisions are made about which goods should enter the RF and which ones not.
“Ukraine does not have an issue of physical security as the RA does, but here the 2 factors mentioned by me also play a crucial role, which had been regularly stressed by the Russian side”, he pointed out.
As to the other 2 countries of the Eastern Partnership, namely, Georgia and Moldova, that are going to initial the Association agreement in Vilnius, Khachatur Qoqobelyan expressed his conviction that Georgia will eventually initial it, but he did not feel the same about Moldova.
Vladimir Putin applied a CSS technology both on Armenia’s and Ukraine’s presidents for accession to the CU: Artur Sakunts
Chairman of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor Artur Sakunts is sure that Vladimir Putin applied a CSS technology both on Armenia’s and Ukraine’s presidents for accession to the CU. In a talk with Tert.am the human rights activist noted that he was once again convinced that the person having a power or power authorization, who is vulnerable in his lifestyle, has corruption risks is vulnerable not only in internal but also in external relations.
“It seemed that in case of Armenia and Ukraine certain factors could have their impact, a question struck my mind what tools Putin had to be able to convince the country’s president to change his decision. If Armenia was being persuaded, it was related to its security, but now I understand that Putin had also applied the same technology on Ukraine’s president. Since there are no security issues in the Ukraine, Putin applied his CSS technology against the president due to the latter’s vulnerability at international level”, he stated.
To the question that previously Sakunts claimed that unlike Armenia one-person decisions were not being made in Ukraine, the human rights activist replied, “in fact a discussion was held among the business representatives that they were more apt to the West, but actually again a one-person decision was made. This comes to testify about the personal vulnerability of the country’s president. ”
In any case Sakunts believes that such a working style will have a short-term significance.
“Failing the process of initialing is among Putin’s personal plans and only in the second stage annexing those countries to the CU. I reconfirm that it is a degrading treatment. If in our country within the frames of the issues with the authorities we can speak of violation of human rights, humiliation of human dignity, various methods of combating them, now find us at the point where we are even denied this chance”, he stated.
According to the Chairman of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor, we have a situation, where speaking of human dignity becomes meaningless”.
“This is not the challenge that we have a non-legitimate government and we can enjoy the opportunity of altering it with time. Now we are denied such chances from the beginning since in case of the CU, we become part of such system that decisions will be made about us”, he noted.
To the question whether, according to him, Moldova and Georgia are going to initial the EU association agreement, Sakunts replied, “I think in case of both Georgia and Moldova, they managed to adhere to such a track of development to democracy inside the country, which completely contradict the approaches of both the Customs Union and Putin”.
“In case of Moldova, it is early to say something definitely, since the latter first of all depends on the Ukraine in terms of economy, it has territorial issues, but in case of Georgia, I am sure the latter will go for the process”, he noted and stressed there is nothing unexpected.
