Manvel Hazroyan against the Court
00:00, June 17, 2011 | Press Release | Right to Fair Trial, Right to Life, Rights of Soldiers/Recruits | Armed ForcesToday the court trial of a bloody incident, which occurred on November 19, 2010 at one of the military units based in NKR Hadrut region, was heard in the Stepanakert office of Syunik Region Court of First Instance.
It should be noted that as a result of this tragic incident four conscripts died and four servicemen were badly injured, including Manvel Hazroyan, the main suspect over the case of murders.
According to the official version, the incident resulted from a dispute between the servicemen. It is worth noting that Manvel Hazroyan is the only serviceman who was charged under part 2 of Article 104 of RA Criminal Code for the assassination of one or more persons, under part 2 of Article 34-104 for the assassination attempt of one or more persons as well as under part 1 of Article 365 for the violation of procedure for military service by the Investigation Service of the RA Ministry of Defense.
“The soldiers are sent to the military bases but there is no control over them. 4 servicemen were injured, where is the staff of commanders and officers, where is the stringency? Why are 8 servicemen sent to the frontline without control?”, asked Hazroyan’s relatives just after the incident. “What future should we anticipate here, who should we stay here for, why should people send their children to the Army? What trust is there towards the Army, where is the president of our country, why aren’t they reacting? ”
Manvel Hazroyan was called on to the army from Nalbandyan village of Armavir region. Advocate Edmon Marukyan presented Manvel Hazroyan’s interests at Court. The latter undertook the servicemen’s defense since the preliminary investigation, at the phase, when Manvel Hazroyan, with gunshot injuries, had already given confession testimonies. Advocate Edmon Marukyan states that the chances of the defending party to have an impact on the criminal case was extremely limited during the preliminary investigation and instills hope that more facts will be revealed during the trial.
