Monitoring of the Right to a Fair Trial
00:00, March 16, 2010 | Press Release | Right to Fair Trial | Drug usersOn March 12-13, 2010 HCA Vanadzor organized a two-day training in Vanadzor for the lawyers of NGOs from Lori, Shirak, Tavush regions and Yerevan.
The aim of the training was to teach the lawyers the techniques of monitoring the right to a fair trial.
Four lawyers from Yerevan, two from Gyumri, two from Vanadzor, one from Ijevan and one lawyer from Dilijan participated in the training.
The training was conducted by Arman Tatoyan, professor and candidate of legal sciences at Yerevan State University.
On the first day of the training the participants were presented with the general principles of the interpretation of the right to a fair trial according to the precedent right of the European Court for Human Rights. Issues related to the reasonable time frame of the case trial, etc.
On the second day of the training the participants were presented the order of hearing criminal cases according to RA Criminal procedure Code, as well as the right of the suspects and defendants to be protected in the context of the right to a fair trial.
At the end of the training arrangements were made with the lawyers related to the monitoring of criminal cases of those charged with illegal drug circulation.
The monitoring will be conducted in the Court of Common Jurisdiction in Lori, Shirak, Tavush regions and in Yerevan. The duration of the monitoring is six months.
The training was organized within the framework of the “Legal Aid to Drug Users in Lori, Shirak, Tavush regions and Yerevan” with the support of Open Society Institute Assistance-Armenia.
