RA SIS Set up Investigative Task Group on Criminal Proceedings of June 23
16:26, November 1, 2015 | News, Own newsHCA Vanadzor hereby informs that the RA Special Investigative Service set up an investigative task group under the criminal proceedings initiated on the Baghramyan Avenue events of June 23, 2015 within the electricity rates hike rallies. The investigative task group comprised SIS investigator G. Mikayelyan; A. Osipyan, Investigator at the RA Investigative Committee Ararat Marz (Regional) Investigation Department Masis division; and S. Hovhannisyan, Investigator at the Investigation Division of Avan and Nor-Nork of Yerevan City Investigation Department, RA Investigative Committee. The investigative task group is headed by V. Avetisyan, Deputy Head of the RA SIS Torture and Crimes against Humanity Investigation Department. Note that on June 23, 2015, the RA Police used a water cannon to stop the rally and the subsequent sit-in on Baghramyan Avenue held by the No to Plunder (‘Voch Talanin’) civil initiative against the electricity price hike, as well as used violence and inflicted bodily injuries to a number of journalists and rally participants on Liberty Square and nearby areas and deliberately damaged or destroyed the recording equipment of the journalists by hindering the exercise of their professional activities. Also, a number of journalists and rally participants were taken to different divisions of the police. On July 2, 2015, the RA Special Investigation Service initiated criminal proceedings on the events above under Article 309(2), Article 164(2) and Article 185(1) of the RA Criminal Code.
