Remembering Fates The stories behind pictures. Photo exhibition about refugees in Armenia.
11:37, September 23, 2013 | NewsOn September 17th and 18th, the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor in collaboration with Tteni Cooperation, hosted a (photo) exhibition about refugees in the city of Goris. The collection of photographs and info boards had already been displayed in June 2013 to mark the World Refugee Day.
The exhibition was first shown in the Goris State Agricultural College for a day and was accompanied by a public discussion. The opportunity to visit the event was mostly used by local students and teaching staff.
The collection, which introduces visitors to the topic of refugees and their status in Armenia, was now presented to a broader audience for a second time as a public installation in the Courtyard of the Cultural House Goris. A lot was done to make this collection accessible to as many people as possible; even a special transport for disabled people was offered by the organizers.
Due to the fact that Goris hosts many refugees from Azerbaijan and other countries, the local people were quite aware of this sensitive topic and of the challenges involved in addressing it. This partly contributed to the success of the exhibition; almost two hundred people attended both events and several spontaneous discussions took place.
