Rock Concert for International Human Rights Day
00:00, December 10, 2010 | NewsOn December 10, 2010, on Human Rights Day a rock concert and information exhibition under the name “Don’t Keep Silence, Say NO to Discrimination…” took place in Yerevan. Different rock groups, such as, “Degh,” “Vordan Karmir,” “An Gordonach,” “The Beautified Project” and non governmental organizations took part in the concert.
HCA Vanadzor was also represented there. The coordinator of HCA Vanadzor, Artur Sakunts, made a speech during the concert and spoke about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which defined human rights as the vision of the new world. The document proclaims that human rights is no more a domestic issue only and that it is common and should be respected by every state.
“During the past 60 years great changes occurred in different countries and continents in terms of human rights. There are still wars, internal conflicts in many countries which take away human life. Many people lose their property, some are kept under detention who are subjected to physical and psychological pressure and tortures.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Armenia has also undergone a number of radical changes, we have faced many internal and external challenges.
We could imagine that during 20 years we could have a country where human rights would be the supreme value, but unfortunately, we don’t have it.
Therefore, today we celebrate this day with the hope that we will have a democratic country, where rule of law exists. History showed that seizure of authority by any human group with the treats of deprivation of liberty, is not only anti-human but also is unnatural, and it is a crime against humanity which will get its objective, fair trial and public judgment everywhere like in Nuremberg and the Hague.
Human freedom can be violated a thousand times and all the time, but no one has ever managed to keep a person brutally forever. So, let’s defend our rights. The person who struggles for his freedom can really be free.”
