Ruben Hayrapetyan’s Statement was coerced and not trustworthy
09:07, July 6, 2012 | NewsA reporter for Mamul.am discussed Ruben Hayrapetyan’s statement from July 4, 2012 with human rights activist, Artur Sakunts, to find out his opinion of the discussions evolving around the statement, arguing that the text was coerced.
“I am inclined to assume that it was coerced because the statement immediately following his meeting with Serzh Sargsyan, while he had a long time before that to make such a statement… I consider this pressure as well. If you noticed, none of the RPA leaders came up with an assessment, the political power did not present its viewpoint. Hayrapetyan’s statement is somewhat hard to believe, one cannot change in a day. This is a prepared scenario, a series of mutually, agreed upon steps,” said Artur Sakunts.
The reporter discussed the issue with Larisa Alaverdyan from the Heritage Party. “This was the first correct step made. I do not know if it was coerced or not, but it was a correct step, in line with the public demand. One more thing, I do not believe that Hayrapetyan’s interests are limited within these 2 spheres: sport and political. There is a business sector where refraining from criminal methods and quitting the abuse of administrative resources would be welcomed as well.
After the July 5, 2012, Government session, journalists tried to find out the opinion of the Minister of Education and Science regarding the resignation of Ruben Hayrapetyan. Armen Ashotyan responded that Hayrapetyan’s step showed that “not everything in this country is connected with a mandate or a governmental portfolio.”
