16:17, February 15, 2013 | News | Electoral RightsArtur Sakunts, “Nothing has been done for 5 years and now they state safe Armenia, this country is perilous for regular citizens.”
“RA President Serzh Sargsyan’s office years was fraught with numerous fake civil movements including “Together”, “Armenian Eagles” and many others, however, the number has increased, which poses a great danger for our country”, stated Sona Ayvazyan, Deputy President of “Transparency International” NGO, at today’s meeting in “Media Center”. According to her, “We raise a number of issues for our Government to solve, but in response, the Government attempts to struggle against us via such fake movements.”
Sona Ayvazyan, along with several other civil society representatives, had gathered to discuss whether or not ecological, city planning, Army related issues bothering the society were incorporated into the programs of presidential candidates.
By referring to the number of death cases in the Army in non-combat conditions, Artur Sakunts, Chairman of HCA Vanadzor, pointed out what irreparable health and life losses the soldiers suffer during the military service today. Being conscripted to the Army with insufficient health state also belongs to this line, according to Sakunts. By his words, “Armenian Eagles” have their offices throughout all regions, on what means do they survive, isn’t it clear that at the expense of the state, annually, over 10-12 million is spent on them.

Artur Sakunts pointed out: “10 people were murdered on March 1, were those murders reveled within these 5 years? Military Prosecutor Gevorg Kotsinyan had a meeting with the parents of soldiers, who died in the Army, how many cases have been uncovered? None. Nothing was done within 5 years, now say out loud safe Armenia, this country is dangerous for regular citizens.”
By continuing the subject of “fake activists”, Levon Barseghyan, Chairman of Gyumri “Asparez” Journalists’ Club, said, ““Armenian American Nurses Association” supports Serzh Sargsyan, we realize the fact activeness.
“Civil society enlarges and develops in our country, but at this point, for instance, from the overriding public interest standpoint, success is only recorded in Strasburg when we see 470 licenses of mining industry, while, those that exist seem trivial successes”.
Mr. Barseghyan recalled that former president Robert Kocharyan promised in 1998 that the disaster zone would have been reconstructed by 2001, “2001 set in and they put off until 2002 and then 2003.Today, pursuant to our data, there are approximately 4500 homeless families. They are the families that have outgrown within years, have got married, have given birth to children and separated. In conformity with statistics provided by the Gyumri Municipality, there are only 1500 homeless families. The sooner they solve the issues of the homeless, the less this issue will aggravate. The poverty rate in Gyumri is 47 %.”
Analyzing the numbers regarding the mortality cases in the Army presented by A. Sakunts, he stated, “194 victims were recorded in the Army within 4 years, 50 out of which occurred as a result of shootings by the enemy, the remaining cases occurred in non-combat conditions.”
By Levon Barseghyan’s words, any type of information regarding the Army is inaccessible, “We don’t insist that you publicize the quantity of beef and potatoes procured to the Army, but the names of the suppliers should be published.”
Activist Vardan Geravetyan raised the issue of AOKS building demolition, “The Ministry of Culture is in charge of applying to the Police, Prosecutor’s Office regarding this issue, but it doesn’t initiate anything. They declare nothing has demolished, it was only dismantled, but there are no rocks and part of the building was pulled down.”
The discussion participants singled out clearing of newsstands from Mashtots Park, and a number of accomplishments in Trchkan waterfalls and in Teghut as success achieved due to struggles initiated by the civil society.
David Sanasaryan, responsible for relations with civil society of “Heritage” party didn’t agree with A. Sakunts’ statements that the political forces of the Parliament don’t voice about the aforementioned issues. According to him, Serzh Sargsyan hasn’t approached to citizens for 5 years and now, when he does so unexpected issues are imposed on him.
