STATEMENT FROM HCA AZERBAIJAN NATIONAL COMMITTEE
00:00, September 11, 2006 | AnnouncementsDuring the last few days several means of mass media working with order of sabotage forces disseminates dirty information with the aim of laying shadow over the peace-minded activities of the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly.
It has been 18 years that the Nagorniy Karabakh conflict goes on.
It has been 13 years since Karabakh has been occupied by the army of Armenia. It has been 12 years since cease fire has been declared on the front line. It has been 10 years that our people hear from the government the words “If it is necessary we can free our lands by means of military confrontation, but we prefer peaceful negotiations yet.” There is neither war nor peace. There are election falsifications, total corruptions, political murders, ordered courts, state of being refugee and IDP, mass migration, and crusade of state against society.
It has been 14 years that Helsinki Citizens Assembly hardly works for building peace between these neighboring two nations swept to the vortex of conflict. Representatives of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly in Azerbaijan and Armenia, and “Helsinki-92” organization in Nagorniy Karabakh together devoted themselves to the fates of left and forgotten prisoners of war and hostages and achieved to release of hundreds of people from captivity while the government was considering the military and civil citizens as inevitable victims of the great political game.
While ill ethnic nationalists from two sides were talking about ever lasting Armenian-Turkish and Azerbaijani-Armenian enmity activists of HCA from both sides not avoiding from displaying their humanistic positions were building bridges between these two nations, arrange meetings of youth, women, children, journalists, and politicians, seeking for peace models convenient for both nations. HCA has been and is continuing carrying out this work. Azerbaijan National Committee of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly has always defended interests of our state and nation and that Nagorniy Karabakh belongs to the territory of Azerbaijan, but has openly declared that enmity propaganda against Armenian people is contradicting the Constitution of Azerbaijan, international laws that our country has approved and joined, and fundamental interests of our people. The idea of everlasting enmity of one nation against any other one is refused by international law as xenophobia and racism and persons supporting this position purposely or accidentally isolate Azerbaijan and drag into defeat.
We comprehensively understand the essence of the events as people who has stood up to the defense of the country and people since the first day of the conflict. We are sure that outlandish political forces and Structures of Special Services agitating, deepening, controlling, and making avail of the conflicts has not moved from the South Caucasus Region. Also “national” forces coming to the power and filling up their pockets profited by the conflict would never agree that peoples having understood the fact of being cheated could ever run their own destination in order to achieve real and honorable peace. These internal and external forces just for the prolongation of the conflict blame patriotic and humanistic activities of the HCA, try to slander HCA activists through disinformation and provoke malefactors against HCA by taking advantage of unawareness of some parts of the society and traitors of mass media. HCA activists comprehend that one part of the difficult and dangerous work carried out for the sake of the country is the struggle with internal reaction and traitors in the pen and mike. The HCA has never obtained and never will, by roaring “fatherland, nation” so as to get profitable trade and speculation objects with the permission and support of the corrupted and monopolistic government, has never rendered profiteering and never will in the name of martyrs, refugees and veterans.
We bravely follow the route our love for fatherland and conscience shows to us without fearing anyone and so we ever will.
