Statement over Pressures Exerted against Teachers in Lori Region

A training course on “Teachers for democratization and peace building in Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia,” is planned to be held in Turkey within the period of February 2-7, 2013.
The goal of the project is to enhance classroom management skills of school teachers in the aforementioned countries by comparing the role of formal education systems, teacher training methods in these countries and teaching practices.
As an outcome of the training, the participant teachers will have a good commend of piece-building and conflict resolution methods via mastering of various educational methods and exchange of experience. An open call has been disseminated to ensure training participation. Teachers from Lori region have also applied to the project. At this point, pressures are being exerted against the teachers on the part of Lori Regional Administration with a demand to have them refrain from participation in the training.
Such a behavior is not only inadmissible, but it also shows the illiteracy of the Lori Regional Administration as well as the antidemocratic nature and conduct of a regional administration staff in a democratic country.
We urgently demand to stop impeding the participation of teachers in the training course, because it is implemented as a follow-up activity within the frames of the Eastern Partnership of European Union and the Republic of Armenia is enrolled in the activities of Eastern Partnership.
Refusal to participate in the training sessions, for the organization of which all preparatory activities have been arranged, will be viewed as a stance inevitably contradicting the RA official disposition. In this case, not only Lori Regional Administration but also RA authorities will be held liable.
