The Government of the Republic of Armenia Is Behind the Failure of Screening the Movie “Parada”
08:03, October 25, 2012 | News | Prohibition of Discrimination“The Armenian Government disrupted the screening “Parada”, a movie about the rights of homosexuals, to be screened in Yerevan at the initiative of the German Embassy and the EU office in Yerevan,” human rights advocate, Artur Sakunts, who expressed readiness to provide space for screening the movie, told www.aravot.am. Nobody has applied for the proposed space.
“It was dictated by the Government. When the government shows inactivity in dealing with a case of violation of rights, it proves its interest in it. How many police officers are gathered because of a picket outside the attorney’s office, why don’t they carry out that same duty outside the puppet theater to ensure the security of those who wanted to watch the movie?” added Mr. Sakunts.
In his words, this year, the Human Rights Committee in Geneva mentioned in the recommendations for Armenia that the Armenian Government showed inactivity in eliminating discrimination against minorities in our country and did nothing to rule out discrimination.
He is convinced that the Human Rights Committee will specifically mention the failure of screening the movie.
