The Ukrainian citizen persecuted by the RF law enforcers was provided with an asylum seeker certificate in Armenia

The RA Migration Service provided an asylum seeker certificate to Ukrainian citizen Bogdan Kaliusskyi (the previous name: Maksim Baidak) in accordance with his application.
HCA Vanadzor advocates Arayik Zalyan and Ani Chatinyan, who are Bogdan Kaliusskyi’s defenders, learnt about this through an email on May 10, 2018.
Bogdan Kaliusskyi was arrested on the charge of forgery of documents and illegal state border crossing in the Republic of Armenia on March 31, 2018.
He was detained on April 1, 2018 and is now in one of the cells on the first floor of Nubarashen Penitentiary Institution alone.
The members of the Group of Public Monitors Implementing Supervision over the Criminal-executive Institutions and Bodies of the Ministry of Justice of the RA have voiced their concern with the inhuman conditions in the cells on the first floor of Nubarashen Penitentiary Institution on multiple occasions.
The Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan rejected the motion on substituting his detention as a preventive measure with bail. On April 23, the RA Criminal Court of Appeal also rejected the appeal against the decision submitted by B. Kaliusskyi’s defender A. Zalyan.
Bogdan Kaliusskyi has been unlawfully subjected to criminal persecution by the law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation since 2013. In the Russian Federation he is charged with public calls for the commission of acts of terror.
Incidentally, no restriction of freedom of speech is prescribed by the RA Criminal Code, and that act does not presuppose criminal liability in the Republic of Armenia.
As to the charges of forgery of documents and illegal state border crossing that were pressed against him in the RA, the Ambassador of Ukraine in the RA confirmed that Bogdan Kaliusskyi changed his name and surname legally in 2017; therefore, he crossed the border with legitimate documents.
Taking into consideration the aforementioned, we demand from the RA authorities to immediately terminate the unlawful criminal prosecution against Bogdan Kaliusskyi.
