The version of Hayk Kaleyan’s suicide was not confirmed
08:55, January 9, 2014 | News, Own news | Right to Fair Trial, Rights of Soldiers/Recruits | Armed ForcesOn December 17, 2013 the RA Syunik Region Court of Common Jurisdiction, in the sitting of Stepanakert promulgated the verdict over Hayk Kaleyan’ s case, who, according to the preliminary investigation version, committed a suicide in the RA AF military unit’s rifle range trench cell on September 6, 2012.
During the same court hearing representative of the victim’s legal successor Artur Sakunts came up with a speech, whereby, he addressed the numerous faults and mistakes revealed during the preliminary investigation and court trial phase. Actually, neither the motives, nor the circumstances of committing a suicide by Hayk Kaleyan were justified through the preliminary investigation and the court trial.
Moreover, the direction of the injuries inflicted by three shots fired from the machine gun did not anyhow allow picturing the alleged position of the weapon in case of committing the suicide. Moreover, there are greater grounds to claim for the version of murdering Hayk Kaleyan. However, the court did not pay attention to these grounds. In fact, in its verdict the Court did not anyhow address the issues raised by the representative of the victim’s legal successor, whereby, it was suggested returning the case to the accusing party and bring charges against the company Commander.
