Court Trials at Courts of First Instance of Shirak and Lori Regions
00:00, June 16, 2011 | Press Release | Freedom of Movement, Right to Fair Trial | PoliceOn June 16, 2011 the Courts of First Instance of Shirak and Lori Regions heard the first trials over appealing the resolutions on rejecting the criminal cases regarding the restriction of freedom of movement of drivers holding Georgian state license plates.
The court trial at RA Shirak Region Court of First Instance, presided by Judge M. Saroyan, was attended by responding party Shirak Region Investigation Department interrogator H. Kakhtsrikyan.
The court trial at RA Lori Region Court of First Instance, presided by Judge M. Melkonyan, was attended by responding party Lori Region Prosecutor A. Poghosyan and Lori Region Investigation Department interrogator V. Martirosyan as well as plaintiff party Artur Sakunts, head of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly -Vanadzor. During the court trials Artur Sakunts submitted motions to get familiarized with the preliminary materials. The motions were satisfied by the Courts of First Instance.
At RA Shirak Region Court of First Instance A. Sakunts requested the case-related documents to have them photocopied at the court, but because of the absence of a photocopier at the court, he was unable to do it. After the court trial A. Sakunts went to Shirak Region Investigation Department to have the document photocopied there.
The interrogator of the Investigation Department, by consulting the Department head, announced that the case-related documents would be sent to the Court immediately after receiving the Court’s resolution to satisfy the motion. Only after which the plaintiff party could get acquainted with the materials.
Unlike the Judge of the Shirak Region Court of First Instance, the Judge of Lori Region Court of First Instance took the documents to get acquainted with the case details. The court trials were postponed. The next trial at Shirak Region Court of First Instance was put off until June 21, 2011, while the other one at Lori Region Court of First Instance was postponed until July 5, 2011.
