The Court Trail of Garnik Melikyan’s Case Continues
00:00, May 26, 2011 | Press Release | Right to be free from torture and inhuman or degrading treatment, Right to Fair Trial | PoliceOn May 27 of 2011, at 16:00 p.m., the trial of Garnik Melikyan’s claim is appointed at the RA Criminal Court of Appeals against the resolution taken by the RA Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts to reject filing a criminal case.
In October of 2010, Garnik Melikyan, resident of Medovka village, was beaten by an official from Tashir Region Police Department. The crime was reported in the Police Department. RA Special Investigative Service declined filing the criminal case due to no crime identified in the activities of Tashir Police Department officials. Garnik Melikyan’s advocate Edmon Marukyan submitted a claim to RA General Prosecutor’s office against the resolution taken by the RA Special Investigative Service to refuse filing a criminal case, after which the RA General Prosecutor’s office rejected the claim by considering it groundless.
Edmon Marukyan applied to the RA Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts with a claim to completely abrogate 25.12.2010 Resolution of refusing to bring up a criminal case against the SIS SIC investigator G. Hovakimyan. The Court declined his claim.
On March 25 of 2011 advocate Edmon Marukyan submitted a claim to RA Criminal Court of Appeals against the resolution taken by the RA Court of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts.
The protection of Garnik Melikyan’s rights is implemented by the initiative of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor.
