Presentation of the Report on Human Rights in Police-citizen Relations in Armenia and Georgia
10:21, March 22, 2012 | Press Release | PoliceThe presentation of the Report on “Human Rights in Police-Citizen Relations in Armenia and Georgia” was held on March 16, 2012 in the “Ambassadori” Hotel, Tbilisi, Georgia.
The participants of the presentation were representatives from HCA Vanadzor, young people from Armenia and Georgia, who prepared the report, and representatives from non-governmental organizations from Georgia.
The report was published in both Russian and English. The report is a result of the “Human Rights in Police-Citizen Relations in Armenia and Georgia” and the monitoring conducted within the framework of “Training and Networking of Young Human Rights Activists” over a two –year period. The goal of the project is to increase the role of youth in the human rights movement in the South Caucasus.
The report was prepared by 9 young people from Armenia and 7 young people from Georgia and was edited by expert, Olena Grabovska, who was invited from Ukraine. During the first year of the project, young people were recruited to conduct monitoring of human rights in the police-citizen relations and the results of the monitoring were compiled into a report. Prior to conducting monitoring and preparing the report, the young people were provided with adequate training by international experts.
Artur Sakunts, Chairman of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor, the staff of the project, and the Georgian and Armenian participants, presented the project, and discussed the activities conducted within the framework of the project as well as the prepared report: including any issues presented in the report, regarding human rights protection in police-citizen relations.
Another presentation of the report will be held in the Republic of Armenia as well.
