The verdict over political prisoner Tigran Arakelyan’s case will be delivered on October 14, 2013.  ArarartNews.am reporter attempted to find out what verdict human rights activist Artur Sakunts expected from the court and overall, what evaluation he would give to the underway court trials.

“The course of court trials over Tigran Arakelyan’s case came to confirm the fact of Political repression since there were no legal grounds to bring up the charge against Tigran Arakelyan , which was done, and it evidently turned out that everything was artificial, didn’t comply with the reality and didn’t have objective grounds”, noted Artur Sakunts in a talk with our reporter.

While referring to the expected verdict, the human rights activist noted that the verdict would be conditioned by the political decision. Whatever political decision will be made by the president’s institute regarding Tigran Arakelyan, that decision will be exercised or we will witness it in the courtroom.”

To the question of Araratnews.am reporter, nonetheless, analyzing the current situation, what verdict can be expected, the human rights activist replied, “It is difficult in the RA to make predictions, since if we were to view it in the legal field, it is apparent  that Tigran Arakelyan should be found guilty, but since the issue is of political nature, in this case the  verdict depends on  how the political factors will develop and it solely depends on the decision to be made by the president’s institute, whereas, those decisions are unpredictable, since the conduct of the president’s institute is itself unpredictable. One never knows what Serzh Sargsyan will have on his mind and what he will decide within half an hour. But I do believe that acquittal verdict should be taken in relation to Tigran Arakelyan and he must be acquitted from the courtroom”, human rights activist Artur Sakunts concluded the talk with AraratNews.am reporter.
