“The fact that Injighulyan’s documents were handed to the UN should be assessed as positive, it is merely not clear from the statement whether there is the country that has already agreed”
05:35, October 7, 2013 | News | Rights of Soldiers/Recruits | Armed ForcesRecently via Azerbaijan’s media outlets Secretary of Azerbaijan’s State Commission on Prisoners of War, Missing Persons Shahin Sahilov disseminated that Hakob Injighulyan, Armenian prisoner of war in Azerbaijan, chose to leave for a third country.
ICRC Yerevan office reports GALA they were aware of the information disseminated via Azerbaijani media outlets; however, they cannot in any way comment it, since it is out of the scopes of their activities to explain the Azerbaijani authorities.
As before, they continue negotiations with the Baku office, but since their activities are confidential, therefore, they cannot provide many data, which causes the society to think that ICRC isn’t dealing with the issue of the prisoners of war, which isn’t the case.
We also had a talk with Larisa Alaverdyan, member of the Commission on Hostages, Prisoners of War and Missing Persons who already twice applied to the ICRC Baku office with an open letter and there are yet no answers.
“This is a very bad precedent by the international organizations when human rights are violated so publicly and no response is given”, states the former MP of the NA.
Since open letters don’t receive responses, the former HRD is going to already apply with letters under administrative norms.
“Now, as it is said, we are already going to write under administrative norms, let them reject, but at least answer.”
The former HRD mentioned that we should be happy about the fact that Injighulyan’s documents were handed from Baku office to the UNO.
“Already the fact that Injighulyan’s documents were handed to the UNO should be assessed as positive. It is merely not clear from the statement whether there is the country that has already agreed.”
