Headmaster considers it slander and denies it and children still have lessons in inhuman conditions
11:49, March 10, 2017 | News, Own news | Children's rights, Right to EducationOver a month ago, based on the alert of B. Sargsyan from Spitak, HCA Vanadzor submitted a letter to the RA Ministry of Education and Science about the poor conditions and heating problems of Tsilkar community school in Aragatsotn marz (region).
As we mentioned in our previous publication on the issue, in his application to the Organization B. Sargsyan informed us that the school was in a poor condition and its heating was ensured through tin stoves and diesel fuel and moreover, that such heating did not provide necessary temperature and thus threatened the students’ health.
Based on the citizen’s alert, hraparak.am news website also addressed the issue and posted pictures showing those problems.
Nevertheless, both in the interview to the media, and in the explanatory note submitted to the Regional Governor’s Office of Aragatsotn marz (region) as requested by the RA Ministry of Education and Science, headmaster of the school A. Hovhannisyan denied the information provided by B. Sargsyan. The headmaster noted that B. Sargsyan visited the school only once and insisted that he might not make such conclusions after that visit. However, he did not deny that the floor in the classrooms was covered with cement and the ceiling was damaged, but attributed the latter to the damage of the roof by the wind some years ago.
He also did not deny B. Sargsyan’s statements on diesel fuel heating and mentioned that there was no other option, but assured that while it was impossible to heat the whole area of the school, the classrooms were heated within the norm.
The headmaster added that the school was regularly renovated and his room was repaired at his own expense.
Generally, A. Hovhannisyan considered B. Sargsyan’s “accusations as ill-founded slander” and at the same time asked the Regional Governor of Aragatsotn marz (region) to take measures to solve the problems related to repairs and heating of the school.
In its response letter, the Ministry of Education and Science mentioned that B. Sargsyan had previously turned to the Ministry on that issue once again, but as we can see, the problem still remains unsolved.
