We urge competent agencies to take immediate steps to provide detainee Hrachya Gevorgyan with necessary medical aid and care
17:24, May 12, 2016 | Announcements, Own | Detention FacilitiesHelsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor is concerned over the indifferent attitude of the competent agencies to the state of health of detainee Hrachya Gevorgyan.
He serves his sentence at ‘Nubarashen’ penitentiary and has been transferred for many times to Hospital for Convicts due to the deterioration of his health and was transferred several times in an extremely critical condition to a civil hospital.
Due to a number of chronic diseases, the detainee is unable to meet his natural vital needs himself, which causes additional inconvenience for him and his cellmates whom Hr. Gevorgyan often asks for help.
Hrachya Gevorgyan, who still remains at ‘Nubarashen’ Penitentiary and receives no adequate medical care in compliance with the state of his health, has gone on a hunger strike for several days to express his discontent with the administration of the penitentiary.
We hereby urge the competent agencies to take immediate steps to provide detainee Hrachya Gevorgyan with the necessary medical aid and care; otherwise, this situation can cause irreversible consequences.
Note that with the support of HCA Vanadzor, Hrachya Gevorgyan’s representative, lawyer Tigran Safaryan has already submitted a motion on taking immediate measures to the European Court of Human Rights.
