Artur Sakunts: ‘While there is no justification for using arms, we have to understand why we have ended up with this point”

ArmLur.am asked human rights activist Artur Sakunts after all what outcome can be expected in the events occurring in Yerevan today, taking into account the fact that the RPR Party members stated that the armed group’s demand on the resignation of Serzh Sargsyan would not be met.
“We have a very specific situation and, of course, this specific situation has a background of its own. The use of arms is not welcome at all no matter who uses them; however, by constantly using arms against the citizens, murdering 10 persons on March 1, 2008 and initiating subsequently criminal proceedings against persons like Gevorg Safaryan, Shant Harutyunyan and his friends, Volodya Avetisyan and others, the authorities create an atmosphere that does not shape any trust in the political and legal processes”, A. Sakunts noted.
He also stated that “While there is no justification for using arms, we have to understand why we have ended up with this point. And now it is of crucial importance to be able to find a solution within legal processes and at least avoid casualties.”
