Use of Armed Forces against Protestants is a Crime
11:45, May 23, 2013 | Announcements | Freedom of Assembly and Association, Freedom of Movement, Right to Life, Rights of Soldiers/Recruits | Armed Forces, PoliceDuring the protest action over the ongoing death cases in the RA Armed Forces organized by the parents, relatives and co-villagers of term soldier Lyuks Stepanyan on May 18, 2013, who was killed on May 15 in #20130 military unit based in Noyemberyan, the procession was impeded on Sevan-Yerevan highway by special forces of the RA Police and Military Police, including RA Military Prosecutor Gevorg Kostanyan, RA Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan, and Police Chief Vladimir Gasparyan with an aim to prevent this extreme means of protest action.
HCA Vanadzor records that,
- Via exerting violations against protest participants, the right of citizens to freedom of movement and assembly was restricted.
- Subdivisions of the Armed Forces were subsequently used against the participants of the peaceful assembly, which is deemed to be a grave violation of constitutional norm.
With the following we claim that the RA Prosecutor General should:
- Conduct a relevant investigation and reveal who had made such an order to dislocate the subdivisions of Armed Forces from their permanent location to Yerevan-Sevan Highway.
- Lodge a criminal case and subject those, who have abused their official power, to liability.
The statement should be taken as a report on crime.
