Law-enforcers have forgotten, Citizens remind and Sakunts explains…
11:41, June 11, 2013 | News | Right to Life, Rights of Soldiers/Recruits | Armed Forces, PoliceRecently the law-enforcement bodies have detected a certain amount of arms and ammunition in some of the streets of the capital and regions. Is it that our citizens just now remembered to get rid of illegal ammunition? By referring to the aforementioned phenomenon in an interview with mardik.am human rights defender Artur Sakunts stated, “The Police is well aware what is where, secondly, the collection of weapons and ammunition is similar to 1988 and 2008 situation, when hunting rifles were taken away from the citizens. This speaks of the fear and panic of the authorities. They are unable to control the situation and the statements made by various governmental bodies often contradict.”
We asked the human rights protagonist to address another phenomenon: the testimonies provided by various persons over the October 27 case are disseminated via the press. According to Sakunts, such releases have merely political nature. October 27 is ascribed to Robert Kocharyan, who is endowed with a chance to maintain, oversee and impact on the situation.
The legal activities implemented by Artur Sakunts has been constantly criticized, moreover, after the death of serviceman Lyuks Stepanyan, there were claims on Facebook social network stating to get rid of grant-eater human rights defenders and first of all Artur Sakunts.
“When human rights are being violated, and those, who deal with the issues, try to shrink responsibility and instead of resolving the issues they form a negative image over the ones raising those issues, I view this as treason. It is the inability to resolve the issues existing in the Armed Forces in line with economic, political and social issues, that ruin our country and not those who raise the issues”, went into details our interlocutor by adding that would talk about it later in more details.
I wonder, if one day Sakunts isn’t the chairman of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor, will he continue with the same diligence raising the existing issues.
By the words of Artur Skunts he has always rasied the issues of the society concerns, but HCA does it in a more organizaed manner. “I wish many state structures worked like us”, concluded the human rights activist.
