Sakunts recommends interrogating Kocharyan, Sargsyan and others
09:53, October 17, 2013 | News | Right to be free from torture and inhuman or degrading treatment, Right to Fair Trial, Right to Life | Civil Control, Local Democracy, PoliceFor the revelation of 10 murder cases of March 1, human rights antagonist Artur Sakunts recommends interrogating a number of officials who held high rank positions in 2008 to reveal what orders and instructions they had received from the former RA President Robert Kocharyan.
“If they get interrogated, March 1 will be revealed”, the human rights activist expressed such an opinion in a talk with “Azatutyun” radio station. In his letter addressed to the law-enforcers, Artur Sakunts spoke of the urgency to interrogate the RA’s former and current Presidents Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan.
With the aforementioned recommendations, yesterday Sakunts applied in writing to newly appointed Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanyan and SIS Chief Vahram Shahinyan.
“The Chief of the National Security Service even stated then they had done well hearing the phone talks of Arzumanyan, Pashinyan and other Opposition representatives. It means, they were engaged in active actions, but how lawful were those active actions, what instructions did they receive, what tasks were given, what were the goals of those tasks? These are questions without the clarification of which, we will not reveal the March 1 crimes”, states Artur Sakunts.
A number of state bodies partook in the March 1 actions, which, according to Sakunts, was not at all self-instigated.
“A whole range of activities were carried out on March 1 by involving Military Police subdivisions, divisions of the Armed Forces, which could not appear there on their own accord or desire and carry out independent, unauthorized actions without orders”, explains Artur Sakunts.
“Who but the Government could involve security service members of famous businessmen, NA MPs and officials in March 1 events?”, stated Sakunts in a talk with us by taking into account the revelation of fact-finding group members and the allocation of overall 950 military uniforms to the relatives of former head of Serzh Sargsyan’s security service Vachik Ghazaryan, former Syunik Region Governor Surik Khachatryan, MPs Gagik Tsarukyan, Levon Sargsyan, Samvel Aleksanyan, Arakel Movsisyan, Gagik Beglaryan, Hovik Abrahamyan, and Mher Sedrakyan.
“Those people, first of all I mean officials, who were enrolled among the authorities during March 10 events and have direct responsibility for March 1 events, by continuing holding their offices and continuing playing crucial political roles, they are restricted for coming to mutual terms within the frames of March 1 crimes, for acting non-transparently in the back of the people since they share one common feature being it March 1 crimes”, notes Artur Sakunts.
“The investigative group over March 1 case didn’t address these questions”, notes the human rights activist by adding that the latest report released by the SIS didn’t provide the answers to the questions of his concern. Artur Sakunts thinks the cause for our political, social and legal problems is the unrevealed case of March 1.
“Even the victims’ relatives feel that the case was concealed and that is why they emigrate”, notes Sakunts.
“In case no answers are given, I will infer that the state bodies show inactivity and will appeal “the attempt of concealing the crime” in judicial order”, noted the human rights activist.
“Overall, the March 1 investigation conducting body called on to the public asking their help for the revelation of the crime”, recalls Sakunts by adding that now he tried to do so by helping them.
