Shant Harutyunyan is also Russia’s political prisoner, Artur Sakunts

Today some of the organizers Vrezh Zatikyan, Edvard Zorikyan and Artur Sakunts met with journalists to clarify the goals of the event.
Chairman of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor, human rights activist Artur Sakunts called Shant Harutyunyan not only Armenia’s but also Russia’s political prisoner.“Shant Harutyunyan’s protest against the Customs Union was the first serious action; therefore, he is also the political prisoner of the Russian Federation. The regime publicly showed that it is implementing an imperialistic demand and would ban any other expression. Today Armenia’s independence, conscience and dignity in the face of Shant Harutyunyan are convicted”, explained Artur Sakunts and added that he and his supporters will deny the lukewarm atmosphere and via going out to the street on February 2, they will pursue their dignity and protection of the county’s interests.
Vrezh Zatikyan mentioned that February 2 is the birthday of political prisoner Shant Harutyunyan currently under arrest. Zatikyan also pointed out there are currently 15 political prisoners in Armenia, 14 out of which were arrested on November 5 at the launch of the march initiated by Shant Harutyunyan, 1 of them is Reserve Colonel, freedom fighter Volodya Avetisyan.
Edvard Zorikyan is going to sing at the assembly to be held in the Liberty square on February 2, besides, a discussion on the Armenian History, namely, Garegin Nzhdeh, will be held.
